Bitten by a ravenous bass player in the mosh pit of a Pantera/Slayer/Static-X show, Jason awoke the next morning with strange but powerful urges to practice large-fretted scales, modes, and above all… the power of the bass face. Over time these urges consumed him, until he had no alternative but to play Alternative with like-minded music-addicted people…a strange breed, to say the least. Now he wanders recklessly from stage to stage, venue to venue, monstrously thundering the ground with his rumbling bass cabinet and feet that just can never seem to stay still. BEWARE, lest the same madness should consume your life as well, but if it does…The Walkman Effect welcomes you!
I grew up in West Chicago, IL. In the early 90s. As a teenager, I was always found with my walkman or discman on me. I picked up a guitar in middle school. I taught myself to play guitar (before the internet)! I formed my first band ‘Radiated Noise’ in the warehouse where I worked, along with my girlfriend's two brothers, and a local friend Paul on bass. I started to write new music for the band. We had a constant search for a vocalist, but no success. Soon after, the two brothers were out, and we got a new drummer, Matt “The Kid”. Paul had brought in Brian (Vocals) & Ambrosio “Bros” (Guitar) from Carmax, where they worked. We continued to develop new original material. Brian was only half reliable, so he was out and Bros stepped up to vocals and guitar. The Kid was out so we got a new drummer Jessie. This was the line-up & we rebranded as ‘Surrender the Masses’. In 2010 we recorded the album ‘.50 Caliber’ demos in my duplex in Elgin, IL. It is available on Spotify and all streaming services. With no distribution, no money for tours, and only local support, Jessie went his own way. The remaining members wrote new music under the name ‘Humanity Enslaved’ and found a replacement drummer Sam. We wrote an EP album that was never recorded. Sam left and Jessie rejoined. Paul dropped out & we tagged in Jason from “A.L.M.A. We played a few shows with these members and then went on hiatus. Remaining members, Bros, Jason & myself wanted to continue to play music, so for fun & for the love of the music that got us started, we formed
